Temple Fire & Rescue crews had a busy weekend, as two fires broke out in the Temple area.

The first happened at 1101 S. 37th St. around 8 am. Firefighters were called after a woman returning home parked her car under a carport at the home and opened the hood of the vehicle to investigate a burning smell. Fire from beneath the hood spread to the carport, and by the time firefighters arrived, flames were spreading along a wall and the attic of the home.

The fire was under control by 8:18 am, and crews cleared the scene at 9:47 am. The car was destroyed and the carport suffered heavy fire damage, but damage to the home was minimal. The fire displaced a family of three, who are currently staying with relatives.

The second fire occurred at the Lock Joint Tube campus at 3601 Eberhardt Road shortly before 1 pm. When firefighters arrived, they found employees evacuating the building. Once inside, crews discovered a piece of machinery with a small fire burning underneath. A sprinkler system above the machinery is being credited with keeping the fire from spreading. The scene was cleared at 1:30 pm.
