The public is invited to attend a memorial service Friday to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks and their families.

Temple Fire & Rescue Public Information Officer Thomas Pechal issued the following press release Thursday evening:

The public is invited to attend a September 11th Memorial Service Friday, September 11, 2015 at Central Fire Station, 210 North 3rd Street.

The service will begin at 8:55 a.m. with opening remarks by Fire Chief Mitch Randles. At 8:59 a.m., the ringing of the bell will mark the collapse of the World Trade Center South Tower, followed by a moment of silence. Ringing of the bell is a fire department custom which commemorates a line of duty death.

Temple Fire & Rescue Honor Guard will post the Colors. The service will include a short reflection and timeline of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The service will conclude with a second ringing of the bell marking the collapse of the North Tower.

The September 11th service memorializes the people who died at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It’s also time to remember the families of those who died that day.

Anyone unable to attend Friday's service is asked to observe a moment of silence from 8:59 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

The Belton Fire Department will also hold a ceremony beginning at 8:46 a.m. at the UMHB Mayborn Center on University Drive. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to arrive before 8:30 a.m.
