A Temple house was heavily damaged by smoke and flames early Sunday morning.

Temple Fire & Rescue crews responded to the fire in the 700 block of North 3rd Street shortly after 3 AM. The first units on the scene attempted to extinguish the fire from inside the vacant single-story house, but were forced to retreat as the flames became more intense. The fire was finally put out using exterior lines and an aerial ladder. The scene was cleared shortly after 7:20 AM.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and a dollar amount for the loss has yet to be determined. No injuries were reported.
