Two officers with the Temple Police Department are being credited with saving the life of a young mother who stopped breathing Sunday morning.

Officers Roger Bilodeau and Michael Thornburg were the first to respond to an emergency call in the 400 block of Mayborn Drive at around 8:20 am. When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old woman unconscious and not breathing.

The officers deployed their department issued automatic external defibrillator, administering a shock which stimulated the woman’s heart until Scott and White EMS and Temple Fire and Rescue personnel arrived to take over CPR efforts.

The officers later learned that the young woman had given birth 2 weeks earlier and suffered some complications during delivery. She is now undergoing treatment at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where she is listed as being in critical but stable condition.
