The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum is currently hosting an exhibit of historic photographs from the March, 1965 marches for civil rights in Selma, Alabama.

The exhibit, entitled March to Freedom, features photos by renowned photojournalist James "Spider" Martin. Martin's images of violence against peaceful demonstrators in Selma helped galvanize support for the civil rights movement and the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Of particular note are photos from a day of violence against the demonstrators known historically as Bloody Sunday.

March to Freedom is an exhibition by the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin and the LBJ Presidential Library, and is presented in partnership with Humanities Texas.

Visitors can experience these powerful photos with regular admission to the museum located at 315 West Avenue B in Downtown Temple. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM.
