A new temporary exhibit is coming to the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum.

People seem to like to make comparisons. Here's your chance to see if the nightmares this generations faces are more intense than those that we faced in the 1950's.

October 27th, 2018 through January 12th, 2019, Terror in the Theater: Fifties Fears will be showcased at the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum. It'll show the fears that gripped the world back then, whether real or imagined.

The exhibit is on loan from the Forrest Ackerman Collection at the American Heritage Center, and includes posters and photos from 50's movies contrasted with earlier and later science fiction classics such as King Kong.

The huge number, and popularity, of science fiction movies in the 50's has led some to call this decade the Golden Age of Science Fiction Films.

All this science fiction emerging along with the rise of Communism, advent of atomic weapons, the looming potential of a confrontation with the Soviet Union, and an increasing number of UFO sightings is indicative of an uptick in paranoia.

To complement the exhibit, the museum has partnered with the Beltonian Theater to present a series of 1950's science fiction films. The films will be offered for free, and include: Invasion of the Body Snatchers, October 24th; 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, November 14th; Godzilla, December 5th; and The Day the Earth Stood Still, January 9th. Showtimes will be at 6 p.m.
