Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz are celebrating wins in the 2018 election as both incumbents survived challenges from Lupe Valdez and Beto O'Rourke Tuesday.

Cruz took to Twitter to thank voters late last night adding, "Now let's get back to work defending jobs, freedom, and security for Texas and America!" Texas Governor Greg Abbott won a second term saying its time for Texans to work side-by-side following the divisive midterm.

Around the nation, Republicans dominated the U.S. Senate while Democrats saw some fresh faces added to the House. Locally, the House race in District 31 saw Air Force veteran MH Hegar fall short to incumbent John Carter late Tuesday. Representative Bill Flores won another term over Democrat Rick Kennedy while Roger Williams defeated Julie Oliver. Kevin Brady defeated Steven David and Mike Conway wins over Jennie Leeder.
