When a man tried to steal an SUV at a Dallas gas station last night, he didn't count on two kids being in the back or a protective mom with a gun in the glove box.

KXAS-TV and WFAA-TV report that 36-year-old Ricky Wright jumped into an SUV parked at a Shell convenience store around 10 PM last night and started driving away.

Two toddlers were in the backseat, and their mom was understandably upset. She jumped into the moving vehicle and asked Wright to stop. He refused, so mom reached into the glove box, pulled out a gun, and shot him in the head.

As we all remember from driving school, a gunshot to the head is a major distraction that should be avoided, and Wright crashed the SUV into a telephone pole.

Mom and the kids weren't injured, but Wright was taken to a hospital. He's been charged with two counts of unlawful restraint and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Look, crossing a mama protecting her kids is dumb enough in the first place, but if you're going to do it in Texas, know that she's probably packin' and you should just walk away before you end up spending the next six months sucking your meals through a straw in the ICU. (And that's if you're lucky.)

The mom told KTVT-TV she should have emptied the whole clip into Wright, but she was really just hoping to scare him off.

“I’m not a killer or anything like that," she said, "but I do believe in defending what’s mine.”
