Texas Prosecutors Are Dismissing Weed Charges Because They Don’t Think It’s Worth It
With momentum for legalization growing across the country, Texas prosecutors are getting tired of fighting what they say are "minor charges" against people arrested on marijuana charges. According to "Now This News" arrests went up between 2011-2012 with 18% of the charges being dismissed, but now that dismissal rate is at 41% as judges and prosecutors are starting to believe that these charges are wasting the courts time and resources.
So will Texas decriminalize weed? For now, it doesn't look like it will, but considering the success rates of other states like Colorado, it could be on the table soon.
