It took 69 year-old Brenda Jones a year to get to the top of the transplant list for a new liver. But what she did when she got there is one of the most selfless acts I've ever heard.

The decisions we make in life really do have consequences for others.

According to KVUE TV, Brenda heard of another person, who was also a match for the same liver, that probably wouldn't survive the next 24 hours if she didn't get a new one. So, Brenda decided to put herself back on the list and give the liver to 23-year-old Abigail Flores.

Baylor Hospital surgeon Dr. Greg McKenna said, “The judgment behind it seemed very clear, but it still felt unorthodox nonetheless."

Others might have been unable to sacrifice their place on the list like Brenda did, but she summed it up nicely with the mirror test. If you can still look at yourself in the mirror after you make a decision then the decision was right for you. Brenda looked at it like that.

In my heart, I wouldn’t have been able to live with the liver if I had let this little girl die. And I still had more time ... I would have been a very selfish person.

Brenda was rewarded with a liver of her own a few days later, and now both women are recovering.

The question one might bring up is why a 69-year-old woman was placed higher on the list then a 23 year-old who only had 24 hours to live.
