Three Temple residents were arrested Monday after two Temple officers were attacked while investigating a weekend assault.

Rojelio Garcia, 23, Isaih Perez, 18, and Julia Hernandez, 19, all of Temple, confronted officers who responded to a report of an assault around 11 p.m. Saturday on South 4th Street. None of the three were involved in the assault case.

The two men, who were reportedly intoxicated, challenged the victims of the assault to a fight, and extended the challenge to the officers when they intervened.

The three refused to leave the area when ordered to do so, and attacked one of the officers when he attempted to identify them.

One of the men began to choke the officer from behind, and the other man attacked the backup officer who tried to help the first. Additional officers sent to the scene managed to subdue the men, but the woman interfered with their attempts to secure them.

Hernandez was charged with interference in the duties of a public servant but was not jailed Monday. Garcia, charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, and Perez, charged with assault on a public servant, remained in custody Monday. Bonds are pending.
