Three people were hospitalized late Monday night after a driver struck a fire engine responding to a grass fire near I-35.

According to our news partner KWTX, two fire trucks were battling a small grass fire near Waco's southbound New Road exit when a black, four-door sedan struck one of the fire and rescue vehicles. The driver and two firefighters were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Traffic was temporarily narrowed to one lane. KWTX reported the fire crews were extinguishing may have been caused by fireworks.
