The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Belton says FM 2271 over Belton Dam is going to be reduced to 1 lane as of January 1st.

This temporary lane closure will be in place for about 90 days near Belton Dam. The area over the dam will be controlled by traffic lights, allowing drivers in each direction to take turns crossing the dam. This will mean considerable delays for commuters in this area, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is getting the word out now in hopes that residents will begin looking for alternate routes.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be working to repair a surface slide along the east side of the dam, as well as replacing the guard rail. Other improvements are planned as part of the project. The lane closure is required for the safety of the public and the workers.
