Two men have been arrested in Copperas Cove after tips led police to investigate alleged drug trafficking near a children’s learning center.

Calum Alexander Bernard Anderson and Clayton Christopher Kendrick were arrested Friday on charges of possession of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone. The two were approached by police as they sat in a green SUV in the 300 block of Erby Avenue, an area designated a drug-free zone because it is within 1,000 feet of the Head Start Learning Center at 1008 North Drive.

Police made contact with the two men after observing what appeared to be drug deals conducted between the suspects and three other people. Officers said they smelled marijuana inside the vehicle. When the men were searched, officers reportedly found a cellophane wrapper on Kendrick containing crack cocaine and a Tic Tac container on Anderson containing the same substance. Both items reportedly tested positive for the drug.

The two were arraigned Saturday: Anderson on $10,000 bond and Kendrick on $15,000 bond.
