AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Two people remain in critical condition after a suspected drunken driver crashed through barricades at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, killing two people and injuring 23.

The emergency department director at the University Medical Center-Brackenridge said Thursday those two people have serious, life-threatening head injuries.

Dr. Christopher Ziebell also said three patients were in serious condition, but are expected to recover.

He said the driver was treated for minor injuries before he was released into police custody. The driver, whose name was not released, faces two counts of capital murder.

Police Chief Art Acevedo said his officers tried to stop a suspected drunken driver early Thursday. The driver fled down a closed street full of festivalgoers, then collided with a moped, killing two people.
