BELTON, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Deshon Kinsey has been named American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Cru's 34-7 victory over Kean University on Saturday.

Kinsey, a junior linebacker from Mart High School, posted a career-high 10 tackles, eight of them solo stops. He also had 1.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble in the game. Kinsey led a Cru defense that held the Cougars to 43 rushing yards and 125 yards of total offense. UMHB also posted six sacks and forced five turnovers in the win.

The Cru is 2-0 on the season following Saturday's victory. UMHB will now return home to host the inaugural game in the on-campus Crusader Stadium. The 4th-ranked Cru will face 5th-ranked Wesley College (2-0) in a 6:00 PM kickoff in that contest.
