Some might say that without this tunnel Texas might not be the great state that it is. This tunnel is the result of man. We carved it out of the mountain so trains could haul goods to other parts of the state so everyone could prosper.

It was also the first railroad tunnel East of the Pecos River. It's 920 feet long and is still the only railroad tunnel in the hill country. Since it was abandoned in the 1940s it's now home to one or two bats. Which you're invited to come see at the Old Tunnel State Park.
