Woman Arrested in Killeen Fire

Catherine Emma Mitchem has been charged with arson in connection with a fire at the Modern Inn on Root Avenue on July 20.

The fire damaged three rooms and required the evacuation of the hotel. Mitchem was not at the property when firefighters responded.

Mitchem was arrested following a tip reported to Crime Stoppers. An investigation determined that she poured lighter fluid on a basket of laundry and lit it on fire. The fire damaged her room, and caused smoke damage in two adjacent rooms.

Mitchem's bail was set at $50,000.
