Killeen authorities were investigating Tuesday after a woman shot herself in the head in a car at Maxdale Cemetery.

The woman was quickly rushed to Metroplex Hospital in Killeen by paramedics, but she was announced dead not too long after arrival. Crystal Rosado with our news partner, KWTX, reported that Killeen police arrived at the cemetery near Maxdale bridge after a member of the woman's family called and expressed concern about her safety.

Officer arrived around 9:30 a.m., and the family member told them the woman was calling relatives and saying she was going to kill herself. When the officers noticed that the woman had a handgun in her possession, the requested help from the Bell County's Sheriff Department, which sent a negotiation team to speak with the woman.

Negotiators attempted to reason with the woman for some time, but she ended her life around noon.

The woman's identity was not released Tuesday. Police did not comment upon what, if anything, the woman said during negotiations.
