Habitat for Humanity broke ground on the new Veterans Community project in Temple over the weekend.

Our news partners at KWTX report the lot at the end of West Hope Street will soon be a place that Veterans can call home. The work is a result of lots of planning from folks like Ken Cates with Fort Hood Area Habitat for Humanity, the city of Temple, and Patterson of Patco Construction.

The Veterans community will feature 13 duplexes that will feature homes for 26 people. A selection process will help decide who lives in the new duplexes. Veterans who live there will have to pay a mortgage but at a reduced rate.

Construction is scheduled to be complete this year. The Veterans community will be named after Lee Crossley who past away in 2014. His passion for Veterans and revitalization of the city of Temple continue to live on with the project.
