Fire marshals are investigating the cause of a house fire that displaced a family of six just south of Troy Tuesday morning.

Troy firefighters arrived at the scene of the initial blaze in the 2100 block of Pleasant View Road around 12:30 a.m. and observed heavy smoke coming from the home. Two adults and four children had escaped the fire, and firefighters were able to rescue their pets.

However, firefighters were called back to the scene around 3:00 a.m. because the fire had flared up again. The Troy fire crew requested assistance from Temple Fire & Rescue, and it took about an hour for the fire to be extinguished. The home reportedly suffered heavy damage in the second fire and is expected to be a total loss.

Officials with the Bell County Fire Marshall’s office were at the scene Tuesday morning to investigate the cause of the initial fire. The second fire is believed to have been caused by winds fanning embers from the first.
