UPDATE, TUE 1/20, 3:OO PM: According to a statement from Temple Fire & Rescue, fire marshals have determined that the fire that damaged an antique caboose on display at the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum on January 18 was set intentionally. Their investigation continues, and we'll bring you more details as they become available.

An antique train car on display at Temple’s Railroad & Heritage Museum was damaged by a fire Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the museum at 315 West Avenue B shortly after 4:30 pm. They arrived to find flames and smoke coming from a wood framed caboose behind the main building. They were able to contain the fire to the caboose so that no other cars were damaged, and the fire was under control by 4:51 pm.

Unfortunately, the caboose suffered significant damage before the flames could be extinguished. A dollar amount for the loss has not yet been determined. The Fire Marshall's Office will be investigating the cause of the fire.
