An off-duty Killeen Police officer was injured Wednesday afternoon after a suspect fleeing in a stolen car ran her over.

The pursuit began around 1:30 PM after police received a report of a stolen Volkswagen sedan driving recklessly through Harker Heights. The civilian who called in the report was following the vehicle and was soon joined by an off duty officer who happened to be in the area.

When the Volkswagen stopped on Stagecoach Road, the officer attempted to persuade the driver to exit the vehicle. The man refused, however, and struck the officer with his vehicle while speeding off. That officer was transported to Metroplex Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The pursuit of the suspects came to a close when the runaway driver attempted to turn onto West Elms at a high speed and crashed into two other vehicles in the intersection. Two men in their 20s exited the vehicle and tried to flee, but were caught and arrested.

Police suspect the men were using drugs and alcohol. Their identities have not been released.
