Fort Hood officials have released details about a soldier who killed three people before taking his own life in Killeen Sunday night.

30-year-old Spc. Ata-Se Giffa of Clarkson, Georgia entered active-duty service in August 2009 as an automated logistics specialist. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Fort Hood, since January 2014.

Late Sunday night, Giffa fatally shot 31-year-old Lydia Farina and 40-year-old Larry Guzman at a home in the 1700 block of Godman Street after some sort of dispute. He then fled to his home at 1710 Godman with his wife as a hostage, where he later fatally shot her and then himself. Another victim was shot and severely wounded at the first scene. She is currently undergoing treatment at Scott & White Hospital in Killleen.

According to a press release issued by Fort Hood’s Public Affairs office Tuesday, Giffa deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from October 2010 to October 2011. His awards and decorations include two Army Achievement medals, an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Ribbon, and a NATO Medal.

Giffa’s motives in Sunday’s shootings remain under investigation by the Killeen Police Department.
