Killeen police are investigating the deaths of two people after their remains were found in an apartment Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called to the apartment complex in the 500 block of North Gilmer Street around 3:15 p.m. after an apartment manager attempting to deliver an eviction notice received no response and smelled a strong odor. When officers arrived, they noticed an open window and saw a man lying dead inside. A locksmith was called to give police access to the apartment.

Inside, investigators found the remains of a 60-year-old man and 42-year-old woman. No signs of trauma were evident, and it is unclear how the two were related or how long their bodies were in the apartment.

The name of the deceased pair have not been released. An autopsy has been ordered, and the case remains under investigation.
