The owner of an unregistered daycare in Killeen has been charged after a 2-month-old in her care nearly drowned.

48-year-old Janine Marie Wesson of Killeen was arrested Wednesday without incident at her home in the 3000 block of Bachelor Button Dr., and now faces a felony charge of Abandoning or Endangering a Child with the Intent to Return. She's currently in the Bell County Jail with bond set at $100,000.

On January 13, 2016, police were called to Wesson's home after receiving a report about an injured child. A preliminary investigation revealed that Wesson left the 2-month-old boy alone in a bathtub as she left the room to check on other children in the home. When she returned, the baby was lying face-down in the water and was unresponsive. Wesson, and later, police, performed CPR on the child before he was transported to McLane's Children's Hospital in Temple in critical condition.

The baby was released from the hospital in good condition on Monday, February 8.

Wesson's home daycare was not registered with the Department of Family Protective Services.
