Our Hometown Hero for April was born and raised in Salado so this is extremely fitting. Steven Cornelius, 30, has been a firefighter since he was 18-years-old, beginning his career as a volunteer firefighter and then eventually taking on a paid position at the Killeen Fire Department in 2008. He still, however, volunteers at the Southwest Bell County Volunteer Fire Department.

"I decided to become a firefighter and paramedic because I like to help people - especially in my community," said Cornelius, who attended the Fire Academy and Paramedic school while welcoming his son, Layne.

His wife of 10 years, Brandi said:

This man has his hands full but still finds time to be the best husband and father anyone could ask for. He loves the fire service and will help anyone who asks for it.

Congratulations Steven. You are a well-deserved Hometown Hero.

Teleperformance and Townsquare Media are proud to recognize this man as a Hometown Hero and present him with the Hometown Hero certificate of appreciation and a $50 gift card to Pignetti’s Italian Restaurant.
