A study from the Darrow Law Firm of Houston has named Killeen among the Top 10 most Dangerous cities in the state of Texas.

The data came from 2014 crime rates per 100,000 residents, police activity, and other economic factors. First on the list of most dangerous cities was Odessa, followed by Corpus Christi. Beaumont was third, Houston fourth, Amarillo fifth, and Brownsville in sixth. Temple was not included in the study.

Though there are dozens of other factors regarding safety, the study focuses on three key statistics: crime, police presence and community socioeconomic factors.

In a recent statement, Killeen police announced that the city's crime had dipped in almost all areas but violent crimes. The Darrow study states "While being a victim of a violent crime is enough to make one feel unsafe, violent crimes have a much more profound impact on public safety than property crimes or drug crimes."
