A man in Harker Heights failed at his attempt to steal a police car early this morning... so he settled for an ambulance instead. Authorities chased the man through the Belton area where he ended up crashing the ambulance, and was finally placed under arrest. Why steal an ambulance? Well, according to sources the individual struck the ambulance when attempting to steal the squad car, and then decided to drive off in it instead.

During the pursuit, the man got on the vehicles radio and spoke to police. He warned them that he was armed and trained as a special forces soldier. He sped off in the ambulance heading east on highway 190 towards Belton. Police say he lost control of the vehicle at the Simmons Street exit and crashed into a light pole.

So far, the suspects name has not been released. There is no word yet if any weapons have been recovered at the scene of the crash.
