An Austin woman gave birth to her baby on the right shoulder of Interstate 35 early this morning. The shoulder was blocked on I-35 and Airport Boulevard and while the father called 9-1-1 at 4:53 a.m., saying "the baby's coming out", the new mom began delivering her child.

Insert bad joke about how long childbirth can sometimes take and the time it takes to complete I-35 construction here.

You'll be happy to know that the mother and her new baby girl are actually doing quite well given the circumstances, and eventually made it to St. David's Hospital.

Later, the father told KXAN News that the little girl's name is Julieta. Congratulations to the Central Texas family and wow, what a story to tell when their daughter is old enough to comprehend it.

I can see it now. While driving on I-35, mom points and says:

You were born right there!
