If it wasn't for the photos, I might not remember all the times in elementary school when my own mother stayed to be the teacher's assistant in class from time to time. All the moms took turns doing that. In fact, growing up in the late 70's and early 80's, we used to see lots of people visit schools for a number of reasons. These days, the events that took place at Columbine and Sandy Hook Elementary have made it almost impossible to be on school property if you are not a student or an employee.

Gatesville Elementary is saying goodbye to a Fort Hood soldier who is being accused of injuring a 9-year-old student. KWTX reports that the soldier is no longer welcome at the school after reports of tasteless remarks about Marines in front of students, and for reportedly placing his hands on a student during PE class, which resulted in the reported injury.

Fort Hood officials say the soldier was volunteering on his own time and not as part of their Adopt a School program, and Gateseville ISD officials say they want to continue the positive relationship they have with Fort Hood.
