The City of Killeen will be pulling the plug on red light cameras Sunday at midnight.

The cameras snapped photos of drivers running lights and issued $75 tickets. According to Sullivan's piece, the cameras generated $1.4 million between 2010 and 2014, and brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past two years.

However, many were uncomfortable with the cameras, including Councilman Dick Young. Young stated that the cameras didn't correct driver behavior immediately like a traditional traffic stop.

Attorney Brett Pritchard told the Herald he was once ticketed $75 despite the fact that he was not the one driving his vehicle at the time of the infraction. He later filed a lawsuit questioning the constitutionality of the cameras, Sullivan reports.

Police Chief Margaret Young told the Herald the cameras decreased accidents, and that she worried police would now be preoccupied with monitoring traffic infractions rather than other crimes.
