A 19-year-old man wanted in connection to a fatal shooting near Corpus Christi earlier this month was arrested in Belton early Tuesday morning.

In a Facebook post, a representative of the Belton Police Department wrote that Christian Bernal was taken into custody at an apartment in the 1100 block of Shady Lane at 1:04 AM.

According to the post, the joint Harker Heights-Belton Police SWAT Team and the Bell County Organized Crime Unit assisted the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force with the operation.

Bell County Jail records indicate that Bernal was booked into the Bell County Jail at 1:42 AM and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and murder. As of the time of this article's publication, he remained in the Bell County Jail with bonds totaling $1,100,000.

Bernal is one of three men suspected of fatally shooting one man and wounding two others inside a convenience store in Mathis on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 6.

According to a report from KRIS-TV, one of the victims drove himself and the other two to the Mathis Police Department, where the fatally wounded suspect was pronounced dead.

Two other suspects - 19-year-old Bobby Villarreal and 20-year-old Marcus Cuellar - were arrested on June 7, KRIS-TV reported.
