Calling efforts to pass a tough abortion bill a “raw abuse of power”, Texas Democratic Senator Wendy Davis of Forth Worth began a filibuster against the bill at 11:28 Tuesday morning.

Davis must keep speaking until midnight in order to prevent a vote on Senate Bill 5. The bill would ban abortion after 20 weeks, force clinics performing the procedure to operate as ambulatory surgical centers and require doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles. Critics of the bill say it would effectively ban abortions in the State of Texas.

Rules require Davis to remain standing without leaning on a desk or chair or taking breaks. She may not eat or use the restroom. You watch a live feed of the filibuster by clicking here.
