Two people were arrested Wednesday in connection to an illegal gambling operation in Killeen.

Clara Guzman, 55, and Khatri Sagar, 27, were taken into custody as police seized gambling machines and $37,000 in a raid on Gateway Food Mart and Booze Liquor Store in the 4200 block of East Rancier Avenue.

The adjacent businesses were allegedly operating illegal slot machines and allowing customers to exchange vouchers from those machines for cash. In response to several complaints about the activity, an undercover officer entered Gateway Food Mart and played on two eigh-liner gambling machines. He was then instructed by Guzman to go next door to the Booze Liquor Store, where he handed a voucher to Sagar in exchange for cash from the register.

Guzman and Sagar were both charged with gambling promotion and are being held in the Bell County Jail on $5,000 bond. Sagar is also being held for an immigration violation. Police say more arrests are expected to be made in this case.
