No charges have been filed against a Killeen resident who shot a man suspected of attempting to burglarize a home.

The shooting took place early Sunday morning at a home in the 2300 block of Zephyr Road. Police received a call about an attempted burglary just before 3:00 a.m. and were en route when they were notified of shots fired.

When police arrived, they found 32-year-old Terry Lee Moon Jr. lying in the backyard of the home with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.

According to a preliminary investigation, the 29-year-old resident was woken up by the barking of his dog and witnessed Moon climbing through a bedroom window. The resident fired one shot and then phoned police. He was taken to the Killeen City Jail following the incident. The case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney's Office before the man was released with no charges filed.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
