The Most Recent Execution in Texas
There have been three executions that have taken place so far in 2025 within the state of Texas.
The most recent took place on Wednesday, April 23rd when Moises Mendoza was executed for the murder of a former high school classmate in 2004.
According to the Texas Tribune, Mendoza was executed by lethal injection and was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.
Two days prior to the execution Mendoza’s clemency request with the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles was denied.
The Next Inmate Scheduled for Execution
There is currently only one more execution that is scheduled at this time to take place in 2025.
The next execution is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th.
The inmate scheduled for execution is Matthew Johnson.

What Crimes Did Matthew Johnson Commit to be Executed in Texas?
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Johnson entered a gas station with a bottle full of bleach.
He stole cigarettes, lighters, and cash from the register.
Johnson then poured bleach on the employee and set her on fire before exiting the store.
The victim died at a hospital because of her injuries.
Johnson is currently being held at the Polunsky prison facility in Livingston, Texas.
