Pictured above is Gable Stevenson with his gold medal for wrestling. This year, he's attempting to do what only ONE other NFL player has ever done. Get a Super Bowl Ring and an Olympic Gold Medal. Stevenson is currently on the roster for the Buffalo Bills, we will wait and see how their season goes. With the opening ceremony this week, let's show some love to the Dallas Cowboy who has done this very rare accomplishment.

Watch Bob Hayes Win Gold and Set a Record at the 1964 Olympics

Bob Hayes won two gold medals at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. One of them was a new record at the time for his accomplishment in the 4 X100m relay, which you can watch above. At the time, Bob Hayes was considered the fastest man in the world. Hayes would play college football at Florida A&M, but would miss most of his senior season to compete at the 1964 Olympics. This did not sway the Dallas Cowboys from using a draft pick on him in 1964.

Bob Hayes Dallas Cowboys Highlights

Fun fact, Bob Hayes is the reason the zone defense was invented. Players would typically run just a man to man defense, but no one was able to keep up with the speed of Bob Hayes. So defenses had to do something to try and slow him down. Throughout his Dallas Cowboys career, Hayes accumulated 71 touchdown receptions. Which would be a record that would stand for decades in the Dallas Cowboys until Dez Bryant would break it in 2018 with 73 career touchdown catches.

Bob Hayes and the Dallas Cowboys Get Their First Super Bowl Win

Before Super Bowl VI, the Dallas Cowboys were known as the team that couldn't win the big one. They would lose to the Green Bay Packers in back to back seasons in the conference championship in 1966 and 1967 and would lose to the Baltimore Colts in 1970 in their first Super Bowl appearance. That would change on January 16, 1972 where the Dallas Cowboys would get their first Super Bowl win.

Bob Hayes Goes Into the Ring of Honor on September 23rd, 2001

This game is mainly remembered for being the first Dallas Cowboys game after 9/11 and the very famous video of George Teague running into the stadium with the American flag got the entirety of Texas Stadium ready for a day of football. Sadly the Cowboys would lose to the Chargers 32-21. A big highlight was Bob Hayes name being unveiled into the Ring of Honor on this day. He would be the 11th Cowboy to enter the Ring of Honor. Sadly Bob Hayes would pass away just over a year later on September 18th, 2002.

Bob Hayes Goes Into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009

Hayes' teammate Roger Staubach inducted him into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after his passing. You can watch the entirety of his speech above. Roger Staubach said he could get a feel for everyone's game speed, except for Bob. He would just go off to another level he said.
