The Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs Could Be Looking For A New Home Soon And Two Texas Cities Has Suddenly Appeared In The Conversation.

The Chiefs were originally formed as the Dallas Texans, debuting in 1960, the same year as the Cowboys. The Texans played in the American Football League, and the Cowboys played in the National Football League.

The competing franchises shared the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, but the Texans, owned by Lamar Hunt, ultimately decided to move to Kansas City. So the Texans became the Chiefs and the rest as you know is history.

Fast forward to present day and the Chiefs are one of the most popular teams in all of sports but the teams owner wants a new stadium and practice facilites and voters told them "No" so ownership has announced that they are looking into other options including leaving KC. Could a return to Texas happen?

Jackson County Missouri voters rejected a sales tax to pay to renovate Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs and build a new stadium for the Royals.

The proposed measure failed earlier this year and the teams lease at Arrowhead expires in 2030. The state of Kansas has been doing what it can to lure both the Chiefs and Royals while one Texas city has quietly emerged as a potential destination:

San Antonio, TX has popped up as another possibility.

In the past, San Antonio flirted with being the potential home for an NFL team. In 2016, there was speculation that the Oakland Raiders (who moved to Las Vegas in 2020) would make the Alamo City their new home. Ultimately, San Antonio was overlooked.

While there's no confirmation from any city officials that they have been contacted by the team, the "whispers" are there.

Meanwhile, the Mayor Of Dallas is getting involved.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has been vocal about bringing a second NFL team into the DFW Metroplex and he hopped on X to tweet "Welcome home Dallas Texans!" with a link to an article about the Chiefs stadium proposal being voted down earlier this year.

He has ONE HUGE PROBLEM standing in his way.....

Jerry Jones doesn't like the idea of another "Dallas" Team.

Mayor Johnson's focus in recent years has been on Dallas teams actually playing in the city of Dallas and not the suburbs and he even created a city council committee that would be focused on attracting and retaining professional sports franchises in the city. Two years ago, Johnson said he had talked with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about a second NFL team coming to North Texas but he didn't support the idea.

There's been no reported interest in a Chiefs move to Dallas or San Antonio and chances are high that the team will stay in the "Kansas/Missouri" area so all of this is just speculation.
