If you’re looking for a new fur baby, the city of Killeen has just made adoption much more affordable. According to KWTX, Killeen Animal Services is now offering five-dollar adoption fees for cats and pit bull–type dogs throughout the entire month of June. The event is called the “Kitty and Pitty Party,” and its goal is to help these deserving animals find loving homes forever.

How Does The Adoption Process Work?

Marcel Ruden, an adoption and care assistant at Killeen Animal Services, explained how the adoption process works. Potential adopters will fill out a microchip registration form so the pet can be properly registered in the new owner’s name. After completing the adoption contract and reviewing the necessary information, families will be able to take their new companion home. Each adopted pet also comes with a small gift bag filled with food, treats, and other essentials to help them adjust to their new environment.

Why Is The Adoption So Cheap?

Ruden also shared that the shelter is currently very full, which is one of the main reasons they are running this special adoption event. By lowering the adoption fee, they hope to encourage more community members to open their homes to animals in need. This initiative not only makes pet adoption more affordable but also helps free up much-needed space at the facility.

What The Benefits Of Pet Adoptions?

Adopting a pet can bring countless benefits. Whether as a beloved family companion, a service animal, or simply a loyal friend, animals provide comfort, joy, and unconditional love. If you’re searching for “man’s best friend” or consider yourself more of a cat person, June is the perfect time to visit and give one of these animals a second chance at a happy life.
