Why Is This Crime Expanding In Texas?

According to KXAN, Organized Retail Theft is crime in question that is growing rapidly in the Lone Star State. The crime is described like this: Thieves enter a place of business, grab items that they didn't pay for, and flee the area. Altercations may even occur between workers and the thieves over the items in question.

Data has shown the state is losing a calculated $421 million due to this crime. Unfortunately, this number is not exact because due to the lack of actual way to report instances of it happening. Can the state of Texas do anything to potentially lessen the amount of times is happens or stop it outright?

Thanks to a task force set up by the state, Texas has a few areas to focus on to stop the increasing rate. One of the things suggested was the creation of a reporting system that works across the state. This, per Glenn Hegar, Texas State Comptroller, will help alert law enforcement in the Lone Star State:

“Better coordination of all units, and that’s why I think is the next step. We’re going to continue to engage in this issue."

Hegar also stated to the news organization: “Are we going to completely eliminate it tomorrow? No. Are we going to significantly reduce it? Yes."
