Don’t Let A Texan You Love Fall Victim To The TxTag Scam
A very well known scam has made its way to Texas. Here are the details about it, and how you can avoid falling victim to it in the Lone Star State.
Scam Involving TxTag Is Appearing In The State
The scam is a simple one. As revealed by Federal Bureau of Investigation, an individual may receive a text, like the one pictured here, about money being due for tolls in Texas:
The fraud, known as "Smishing," is attempting to fool you into thinking you forgot to pay for the tolls. The link attached to the text may seem legitimate, but in fact, is simply trying to gain certain parts of sensitive data from you. The biggest item they want of course is your bank information.
But how does one avoid falling victim to it? Here's how you can do so.
Avoiding The TxTag Scam In The Lone Star State
Per the FBI, if you receive a text like the one shown above, you should immediately look at the actual website for TxTag to make sure you owe money. Once you've confirmed that the text is indeed fake, you should remove the text from your phone.
In addition, you should report the text to the FBI, using the file the complaint tab. If you've unfortunately fallen for the smishing scam in question, do whatever you can to protect the personal information you've shared.
