Massive Layoffs Now Coming For Major Texas Retailer
In Texas we are definitely not used to dealing with ice bergs, or pretty much anything frozen besides our margaritas, but when a major retailer announced they were closing 5 stores earlier this year, it turns out that was just the tip of the ice berg.

Just after the new year, Macy's announced they were cutting about 3.5% of their nearly 100,000 employees, and that the corporate positions would be hardest hit to go along with the original five store locations. Then, the number or store closures grew to 50 before the end of this year, and now it looks like total number of retail locations that will soon be gone is in the neighborhood of 150 by the beginning months of 2027.
One bright spot of news in this very dim forecast as we are about the enter the 4th quarter and the holiday shopping season is that it looks like Macy's will continue to retain their seasonal employees. My best guess is that because they are hourly and there is simply never enough help for the holidays, the staff that moonlights as retail clothing associates probably are just a drop in the bucket to the overall financial woes at Macy's, and their money problems would only go up if the annual windfall of holiday sales suddenly lagged.

Hopefully the more than 2,000 employees receiving Macy's pink slips this year are receiving quality severance packages, and able to find new work quickly before the holidays.
