Texas City Ranks As Second Most Healthy City in the Country
One Texas city has topped a list of the most healthy cities in the entire country, and I think you won't be surprised to find out which city that is.
I'm sure for many Texans, their health is a top priority; joining a gym, eating healthier and even just concentrating on your mental health, there are so many new options for a healthier lifestyle these days.
Now, a new study from Forbes determined which cities have the healthiest and least healthy populations, Forbes Advisor compared the 46 most populated cities with available data across eight key metrics:
- Number of heart disease deaths per 100,000 residents
- Number of opioid overdose deaths per 100,000 residents
- Percentage of adults with diabetes
- Percentage of adults with high blood pressure
- Percentage of adults who report binge drinking
- Percentage of adults who report having obesity
- Percentage of adults who report smoking
- Percentage of adults who report physical inactivity
Forbes determined that Austin, Texas is not only the healthiest city in Texas but, overall, it's the second healthiest city in the country.
Austin has one of the healthiest populations in the nation thanks to the lowest rate of high blood pressure among its adults and it has the fifth-lowest percentage of adults who report smoking. Considering heart disease is the top cause of death in Texas, Austin is doing really well in preventing that.
As for the Texas cities with the least healthy populations? Unfortunately, cities like Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and El Paso rank among the least healthiest.
