DEVELOPING: Police in Ridgefield, Conn., are searching for a "suspicious person" in the area after an unconfirmed report of a man carrying a rifle at a train station.

Authorities, including state police and K-9 units, are scouring the Branchville train station for any sign of the man, Det. Steve Papstein of the Ridgefield Police Department told FoxNews.com.

"We're still looking in the area," Papstein said. "We don't know if the person is armed."

Just before 8 a.m., a woman called police saying she saw a white male, dressed in black, carrying what looked like a weapon over his shoulder at the train station.

Ridgefield is approximately 19 miles from Newtown, where 20 children and six adults were killed Friday when a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook elementary school.
