Marfa is home to some pretty weird stuff. You've got the famous Marfa Lights, the mini Prada store, the Wrong Store, and Building 98, and that's all great, but they've been holding on to something that, in my opinion, belongs here in Temple.

If you've seen some of my past articles, you know I love browsing around Zillow and other real estate sites to snoop on the biggest, most expensive, or just plain interesting homes for sale in Central Texas and across the state. I've covered Temple, Belton, Harker Heights, and even my hometown of Troy. Sometimes I like to snoop Airbnb rentals, too.

I decided to branch out a little and see what's out there in Texas, and look what I found!

Hey, Marfa - quit hoggin' all the cool stuff!

In case you didn't know, Temple was founded as a Santa Fe Railway construction camp in 1880. It was incorporated two years later, and the railway is still a vital part of our town's economy and culture. If you're new to the area, THAT'S why you see things named for the Santa Fe railroad and see train iconography everywhere.

Now, Temple is home to a fantastic place - the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum. If you've never been, I highly recommend it. You'll find great permanent displays detailing Temple's history and its relationship with the rail industry, and they frequently host wonderful temporary displays of historical artifacts, art, and film. They also host a lot of family activity days. Check out their website for all the details.

At the museum, you'll find antique Santa Fe cars. They're a lot of fun to visit, and I think the Santa Fe caboose "house" out in Marfa should join them. What do you think?

Let's take a look inside. It could use some TLC, but it's in surprisingly good shape. If you've got $254,000 lying around and want to buy this piece of Texas history, Lauren Meader Fowlkes with the Odessa Board of Realtors can help you out.

PICS: Texas 'Salvation Cabin' a Perfect Airbnb for Nature Lovers

Salvation Cabin in Wimberley lies in the Texas Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio. It's a charming 1-bedroom just next to the Blanco River, so depending on when you go, you could do some tubing and kayaking (host Adena even provides the tubes and watercraft), and there's a lot of hiking, exploring, fishing, and nature watching to do.
