The son and step-daughter of slain Kaufman County, Texas District Attorney Mike McLelland are calling the murder of McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, a case of “domestic terrorism”.

J.R. McLelland and Christina Foreman cite the fear and tension raised in law enforcement officials across Texas following the March 30 murder of the DA and his wife in their home. Both are troubled by the lack of any arrests in the case, but it still remains unclear who carried out the murder or why. The crime came just two months after Kaufman County Assistant DA Mark Hasse was murdered outside the county courthouse in broad daylight. Some have speculated that the murders have to do with the Kaufman County DA Office’s investigation of a massive racketeering case involving the Aryan Brotherhood.

J.R. is particularly frustrated because his father had put away all his firearms for safety reasons over the Easter holiday. The McLellands were avid shooters and practiced responsible gun ownership, he says. He believes that Mike and Cynthia might still be alive had their firearms been within reach.
