Earlier this morning around 2:40 a.m. Temple Fire and Rescue responded to a tractor trailer on fire on I-35 southbound between mile marker 300 and 301. Traffic has been steady all morning as crew member extinguished the fire and remove debris from the highway.

The trailer was full of paper products, which contributed to how fast the fire spread. The driver, who escaped uninjured, reported that his brakes overheated and believes that's what started the blaze. Engine crews worked hard throughout the morning to put out the flames, though the location made it difficult to extinguish.

Crews are still on scene as hazardous materials are being cleaned up from the highway.

Travelers are advised to use Loop 363 west and an alternate route to get around Temple.

A total of 3 Engines, 1 Rescue and 1 Command vehicle as well as multiple PD units responded to the scene and some crews will remain on scene until the road is cleared.
