Some people consider talking about the weather boring, but in Texas it's anything but.

All around the world, we've all experienced a huge shift in our average lives with the COVID-19 pandemic. Up is down, and down is up. Meaning everything is completely different than what it typically is.

As a Texan, we all know and understand that the weather can change in the blink of an eye. A running joke in Texas is that we really only experience two seasons, Summer and not Summer.

Well, as we approach Summer I can't help but reflect on the past year. I found myself realizing that the weather in Central Texas has actually more closely related to real seasons than ever before, or at least in my opinion that is.

But there has been an actual change in average temperatures according to data from the National Weather Service, where I found the average monthly temperatures in Waco.

I mean just look at March 2020 compared to March 2019. 2020's average temperature was 64.1 while 2019's average was 54.9. Another stark difference can be found in September 2020 from that of September 2019. The average temperature for September 2020 was 75.3 while in September 2019 we were sweltering with an average temperature of 85.7.

Also who can forget Winter Storm Uri? This February in Texas showed a chilly average temperature of 43.5. Previously the lowest average was in 1936, where the average was 42.8. Plus snow? In Central Texas? Not those fake flurries either, actual snow!

My point here isn't about climate change or politics. I'm honestly just a Texas girl enjoying the difference in temperature. Texas is HOT and HUMID, so to have a little bit of a break from that is nice.
