UPDATE: John C. Foley, President & CEO of KMCO LLC, released the following statement about the explosion and fire at the company's Crosby, TX plant Tuesday afternoon:



A shelter in place order was issued in Crosby, Texas Tuesday after an explosion at a chemical storage facility started a fire.

KHOU-TV reports that one person was killed and at least two others were injured in an explosion at KMCO around 10:45 AM. The injured were airlifted to a local hospital.

As of Tuesday afternoon, fires were still burning and KPRC-TV reported that a warehouse on the KMCO LLC property was aflame.




Harris County officials were asking people within a 1-mile radius of the KMCO plant to shelter in place until it becomes clear what sort of chemicals may be airborne after the explosion.
